Antrim County, Michigan - 2009 With the advent of digital photography, the use of trail cams (sometimes called "game cams") by sportsmen is increasing rapidly. These rugged systems are fully weatherproofed cameras that are attached to trees or other objects. They work by sensing motion in the area in front of the camera, then snapping pictures of anything causing the movement. The photo below was sent to us by a curious hunter who had discovered something interesting in one of his trailcam photos. The camera had captured scores of images of deer, fox, rabbits and other wildlife, but in this image, something else appears to be moving.
You can clearly see the deer, apparently a young doe, moving toward the right side of the image, but look closely just above the deer's back. There is a distinctly canine-shaped head there, or perhaps merely foliage that looks like a wolf. Here is an enlarged and enhanced section of the same image:
The contributor of this image has stated that the shape behind the deer does not show up in any of the other images captured by the same camera. This image was taken in the same general area as a set of earlier trailcam photos, as published in this report .
