Keeping the Promise

August 29th, 2007 - On a sunny afternoon in August, a promise was kept.

Brian Manley and June McGrath are interviewed by
TV 9&10 at A.C. Paw's "Dogwood and Cat Tales" event
Steve Cook, the author/creator of "The Legend of Michigan's Dogman" presented a check for $2,500.00 to Brian Manley and June McGrath, the co-founders of A.C. Paw, based in Mancelona, Michigan. This amount represents a portion of the proceeds from spring and summer sales of "The Legend 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition CD/DVD set." The presentation was made at the conclusion of A.C. Paw's "Dogwood and Cat Tales" event held at the Grand Traverse Civic Center on Sunday, August 26th.

Since 1987, demand for copies of the song "The Legend" has remained strong. From the time the first cassette tapes sold for $3.00 each, Steve Cook has promised to donate the profits to worthy causes, primarily humane societies and animal rescue groups. In 2007, sales of the 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition have shattered all previous records.

"This is wonderful," said Manley. "Your contribution will go a long way toward helping us sustain our efforts. We thank everyone who purchased a copy of "The Legend," and you Steve, for your continued loyal support."

Since its founding in 1995, A.C. Paw has operated on a unique foster care system where volunteers open their hearts and homes to abandoned, abused, and neglected animals. Overseeing their care and rehabilitation, the fostering families work tirelessly to prepare the dogs and cats for adoption into loving homes. The formula has been a remarkable success, rescuing nearly 5 thousand animals.

"You can't imagine the satisfaction I feel," Cook said following the presentation. "Looking around this event, seeing the many beautiful pets romping and playing, and knowing that we played this small role in saving many of their lives - makes everything worthwhile. And the best part is, this is only the first installment - we hope to send another check by the end of the year."
